Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Mazgab Sanctuary is a free companion site for readers of "The Forbidden Ethiopian Bible in Modern English Illustrated," published by Mazgab Press. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, please write to us at info@mazgabpress.com.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run the Sanctuary and help you on your reading journey.
- Your highlights, notes, and journal entries are private to you.
- We never sell your data, and we never share it for advertising.
- You can download your data or delete your account at any time from Settings.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address. We use it to create your account, let you sign in, and send emails you have asked for.
- Profile information you choose to add. This may include a display name, a profile picture, a short bio, or your church tradition. All of this is optional.
- Reading progress. We keep track of which days of the reading plan you have finished and where you are in the book, so you can pick up where you left off.
- Highlights, notes, and journal entries. These are private. Other members cannot see them, and we do not read them except when required to keep the service working or safe, or when the law requires it.
- Forum posts and replies. Anything you post in the community forums, including prayer requests, can be seen by other members.
- Messages you send us. If you contact us, we keep your message so we can reply.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical logs. Like most websites, our servers record basic technical details such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the time of each request. We use these logs to keep the site running, fix problems, and protect against abuse.
- Analytics without cookies. We use privacy-friendly analytics that count page visits without placing tracking cookies in your browser and without building a profile of you.
- Essential cookies. We use a small number of cookies that are needed to keep you signed in and to remember basic settings. We do not use advertising cookies.
Why we use your information
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To save your reading progress, highlights, notes, and journal.
- To run the community forums and show your posts to other members.
- To send you emails you need, such as sign-in links and important account notices.
- To send you newsletters or reading reminders, but only if you have said yes.
- To keep the community safe, prevent spam, and enforce our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
- To understand, in general terms, how the site is used so we can improve it.
Service providers we use
We rely on a few trusted companies to run the Sanctuary. They process information only on our behalf and only to provide their services.
- Supabase stores our database, handles account sign-in, and stores files such as profile pictures.
- Resend delivers our emails.
- Vercel hosts the website and provides our cookieless analytics.
- Cloudflare Turnstile helps protect our sign-up form from bots. It may check basic details about your browser to tell people from automated programs.
Videos and audio
- YouTube videos. Videos in the Video Lessons area are embedded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode. The video player does not load until you press play. Once you press play, YouTube (owned by Google) may collect information under its own privacy policy.
- Audio files. Audio recordings are stored on Google Drive. When you open or play one, you are visiting Google's service, and Google's own privacy policy applies.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your information with advertisers or use it for targeted advertising.
- We do not make your private highlights, notes, or journal public.
Emails and your choices
We send account emails, such as sign-in links and important notices, because they are needed to run your account. We send marketing emails, such as newsletters and announcements about Mazgab Press books, only if you have agreed to receive them. Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also change your email choices in Settings at any time.
Our mailing address for email purposes is: [Mailing address to be added before launch]
How long we keep information
- We keep your account information for as long as your account is open.
- If you delete your account, we delete your profile, reading progress, highlights, notes, and journal entries. Your forum posts stay in their conversations so that replies still make sense, but your name, photo, and profile are removed and the posts are shown as written by a "Former member."
- Some information may remain in secure backups for up to 30 days before it is fully removed.
- Technical logs are kept for a limited time, usually no longer than 90 days, unless we need them longer to investigate abuse or meet a legal duty.
Your rights and controls
- Download your data. You can export a copy of your information from Settings.
- Correct your data. You can update your profile at any time.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account from Settings. This cannot be undone.
- Ask us. If you would like help with any of these, or want to ask what information we hold about you, email info@mazgabpress.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. We will honor those requests where they apply.
Children
The Sanctuary is not intended for children. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, please contact us.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong email account and keep your sign-in links private.
